DR. SEUSS EXPLAINS COMPUTERS
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port
And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort
And the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.
If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash
And the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash
And your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash
Then your situation's hopeless and your system's going to crash!
If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
Says the network is connected to the button on your mouse
But your packets want to tunnel on another protocol
That's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall
And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss
So your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse
Then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang
'cause as sure as I'm a poet, the CPU's going to hang
When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk,
And the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risk,
Then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM.
Quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your mom.

not necessary.

Like Microsoft's AutoComplete, LetMeType helps you enter text, but regardless of the program you use. Running in the background, it analyses what you type. After some time it has collected enough information to guess a word after you have typed the first two or three letters. A list of the most probable words is displayed, and you can select one with a single keystroke or just continue typing.

Electronics Design - for drawing professional circuit diagrams
Gnu Electronic Design Automation is a free electronics design package. These tools are used for electrical circuit design, schematic capture, simulation, prototyping, and production.
CircuitMaker is a free limited version of a commercial circuit design package available.
There is also circuit drawing software available on the web called XCircuit (I cannot recall if it is still available as freeware or shareware).
XCircuit is a UNIX/X11 program and runs in Windows environments, (if you have an X-Server running) It is a program designed for drawing publishable electrical circuit schematic diagrams and related figures, and produce circuit net lists through schematic capture.
With Design Works Lite 4.2 you can draw professional circuit diagrams but (unfortunately) they no longer offer the “beta testing version. Therefore - it is not “freeware” – I think it costs around 40 bucks. With it you can draw, save, edit and print complete, professional circuit diagrams using powerful features like bussing, multi-level Undo/Redo, and automatic gate packaging.
The details about this program are available in this on-line DesignWorks Lite manual.

Comments from Lee:
Comp,
I had a chance to give your site a good look this weekend. Nice job and I found a couple of useful items as well.
Since you seem to be trying to help out students, here's something I picked up elsewhere in this forum a couple of weeks ago:It graphs a function, calculates its roots and will evaluate both the function and its first derivative. There's a bit of a learning curve, but it's a pretty slick tool.
Cheers, Lee Meister
Houston, Texas
Thanks for the TIP Lee!
It's a Freeware graphics calculator program by Alex Chitu.
(A free equation solver)DeadLine is an useful freeware, especially as an educational support, offering visual indications about the number of roots of an equation and a very precise approximation of the roots.
DeadLine displays the graph of the function and a list of the real roots of the equation. It also includes the option to evaluate the function and its derivative. You can save the results provided by DeadLine and even create projects for future use.
Evaluate functions and differentiate numerically.
You can evaluate a function and its derivative with 8 decimal digits accuracy, even for complicated expressions. DeadLine recognizes the most important functions : trigonometric (sine, cosine, tangent), inverse trigonometric, hyperbolic, inverse hyperbolic, natural logarithm, exponential, square root, absolute value.
Plot graphs and easily change the scope.
DeadLine plots function graph. You can zoom in, zoom out or move the scope in any direction. Another way to adjust the interval of the graph is to define the bounds explicitly. Studying the function behaviors a very easy task with this feature.Solve algebraic equations.
DeadLine helps you solve algebraic equations. Although there's no flawless technique to solve equations, the program combines four of the most successful methods in order to deliver you the right answer. The equation solver automatically displays all the real roots of the equation in a scrollable list.Save the results for future use.
If you want to include the graph and the roots of an equation in your documents, you have the option to export them in a html file. Take a look at a sample of an equation solved by DeadLine.Get context sensitive help.
Use the built-in help file to find out all you need to know about DeadLine. Get details about four numerical methods, read useful tips and tricks and learn how to write a valid equation. What's new : improved root finding, XP style, runtimes detection, new functions, integrated evaluation, centered zoom, faster engine.
